The Idaho Self Storage Association (IDSSA) recently held annual conferences for self-storage operators in North and South Idaho. Members gathered in Boise on Aug. 15 and in Coeur dAlene on Aug. 16 to participate in educational sessions and elect new officers and board members.
Michael Bishop of StorageLand Management & Consulting Services was elected the new president, succeeding Bob Scott of Acorn Self Storage, who served the post for three years. The other officers are Richard Church of Hilltop Storage, vice president; Heather Scott of Acorn Self Storage, secretary; and Jolene Rausch of Eagle Mini Storage, treasurer. Phyllis Rankin of Baylees River Rock Storage will serve as North Idaho Director. Additional board members include Anita Jones of Budget Storage of Idaho, Bill Werhane of Easy Access Storage, John Messmer of Kuna Self Storage and Gerald Hughes of Save-Most Self Storage.
A special drawing was held at both meetings, with a grand prize consisting of a full registration package for the upcoming Inside Self-Storage Las Vegas Expo, Feb. 5-8, at The Venetian Hotel Resort Casino and Sands Expo & Convention Center. The Boise winner was Alan Saunders of Stor-n-Lock. The Coeur dAlene winner was Ellen Grover of Hayden Storage. A third expo-registration package will be used as an IDSSA membership-recruiting prize between now and Jan. 1. The registrations were donated by Inside Self-Storage (www.insideselfstorage.com) as part of its initiative to support the growth of state self-storage associations.
Randy Tipton of Universal Insurance congratulates Alan Saunders of Stor-n-Lock for winning a special drawing at the IDSSA conference in Boise.
Featured speakers for the conferences were industry veterans Jim Chiswell of Chiswell & Associates LLC and Randy Tipton of Universal Insurance Facilities Ltd. Chiswell presented sessions on facility operations and marketing. Tipton provided an overview of self-storage insurance coverages and addressed a key issue facing all Idaho facility operators regarding the removal of hazardous materials.
An informal board meeting was also held to discuss growth strategies for the year ahead. The IDSSA has grown over the past few years, and its leadership is working to meet members future needs. I encourage all facility owners or managers to join their state storage association, said Bishop. The benefits and networking opportunities are invaluable to your business. There are also many benefits for supporting vendor members as well.
