Michael Adams, owner of Hawthorne’s New York Pizza & Bar, has partnered with real estate investment firm The Stewart Group to develop two mixed-use projects in Charlotte, N.C., that will feature more than 204,000 square feet of self-storage. The project at 6125 Nations Ford Road will offer 80,000 square feet of self-storage in addition to a 1,000-square-foot manager’s office and 10,000 square feet of retail. The other project, in Plaza Midwood, will offer 124,800 square feet of self-storage and 4,000 square feet of retail, according to the source.
The Nations Ford project will feature a five-story, 91,000-square-foot building on 1.8 acres. Adams recently filed a rezoning petition with the city, the source reported. Hawthorne’s Pizza will occupy 5,000 square feet, and a 1,500-square-foot coffee shop is also expected as part of the development. The city council is expected to review the project in a few months. Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence later this year, according to the source.
For the Plaza Midwood project, Adams and The Stewart Group created a limited-liability company called 1101 Central Group. The site plan includes the possibility of commercial- and office-space expansion. The city council is expected to review the site plan in May.
Both projects are part of a continued expansion of the local pizzeria chain. Several mixed-use projects featuring self-storage have been submitted to the city since late last year when Charlotte officials decided to allow self-storage into mixed-use development districts, according to the source. Projects require retail or offices to occupy the ground floor.
