Janus International Corp., a manufacturer of self-storage doors and hallway systems, has acquired StorageDisabilityProducts.com, an online company that offers an Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance kit for self-storage operators. Janus President David Curtis said the natural pairing of his companys products with ADA kits acted as the force behind the acquisition.
Acquiring StorageDisabilityProducts.com allows us to illustrate our commitment to the self-storage industry to becoming ADA-compliant in an easy, accessible manner, Curtis said.
The website offers indoor and outdoor ADA kits. The indoor kit includes an accessibility sign with Braille, an external nylon door pull with nut and washer, a foam strip to cover the nut, and a nylon door rope. The external kit includes the same products, plus ramping when measurements are provided.
Created in 1990, the ADA prohibits private entities from discriminating against individuals with disabilities by requiring public places to remove architectural barriers that limit access or use of a public space. In 2010, scoping requirements were added to the ADA standards, mandating that self-storage facilities identify a specific number of units as accessible to be compliant.
StorageDisabilityProducts.com will operate from the Janus headquarters in Temple, Ga. Janus manufactures rolling-steel doors and coiling-sheet doors for the industrial, commercial and self-storage markets. The company has five U.S. locations as well as joint ventures in the United Kingdom and Mexico.
