Personal Mini Storage of Deland, FL, Re-Opens After Tornado Damage

Article-Personal Mini Storage of Deland, FL, Re-Opens After Tornado Damage

Personal Mini Storage, which operates 45 self-storage locations in 18 Florida cities, has re-opened its property at 800 N. Spring Garden Ave. in Deland, Fla., which was hit by a Tornado last summer. The leasing office and two storage buildings, which contained more than 60 units, were damaged by the Aug. 18 storm. The roof of the resident manager’s apartment was also destroyed, according to a source.

The facility is managed by Lisa and Steve Venable, who had been on the job only one day when the tornado struck. The cyclone caused $7.4 million in damage to area businesses and homes. It covered a 4.6-mile path, moving northeast at West Minnesota and North Ridgewood Avenues before lifting east of the Lake Lindley home subdivision, according to a National Weather Service report.

Personal Mini staff celebrated the site’s re-opening with local vendors on March 27. It was the company’s way of showing appreciation for the ongoing support and kindness from the community during its restoration, the source reported.

Founded in 1982 by brothers Stan and Ron Shader, Personal Mini is a participating regional operator for National Storage Affiliates Trust, a Maryland real estate investment trust specializing in self-storage.
