On The Move Inc. (OTM), a full-service truck-rental company serving the self-storage industry, has acquired Detroit Custom Coach (DCC), a food-truck manufacturer and service center in Oak Park, Mich. OTM added food trucks to its product line in 2013.
The acquisition will allow DCC to create more local jobs and fulfill orders for all types of clients nationwide, according to an OTM press release. The company has built trucks for national clients such as Jim Beam and Velveeta as well as local favorites Delectabowl Food Truck & Catering and MotorCity Casino Hotel. It also works with existing step vans to customize the interior with the kitchen equipment and stainless-steel package needed to prepare and serve menu items.
“I am excited that we can now offer our customers trucks of all sizes and work with all budgets. We have offered only one design in the past and can now help every customer,” said Robert Mikalonis, OTM’s director of food trucks.
OTM trucks can be customized with kitchen equipment, a built-in generator, water-holding tanks (fresh and grey), an optional soda dispenser and serving counter on the truck’s exterior. The vehicles can also include a patent-pending extended slide-out. OTM has worked with local and national companies including CST Brands Inc., Church’s Chicken and Purdue University, the release stated.
Founded in 1992 in Dearborn, Mich., by Maury Westerdale, OTM offers a turnkey rental-truck program including trucks, rental-truck insurance and custom truck graphics for advertising self-storage locations. It also offers a tenant-protection program through On the Move Insurance Agency.
