Self-Storage Talk Makes an Upgrade, a Few Changes

Article-Self-Storage Talk Makes an Upgrade, a Few Changes

<p>Everytime Facebook makes changes, the public outcry is always notable: "Oh, I hate the new layout!" "I don't know where any of my settings are now!" Though Self-Storage Talk (SST) is not at all near the scale of Facebook, it is the largest online community in the industry, and last Thursday, it got a much-needed software update, which has also resulted in a few changes as to usability. To avoid a public outcry among our more than 5,2000 members, I'll try to explain a few of the most obvious changes. Everytime Facebook makes changes, the public outcry is always notable: "Oh, I hate the new layout!" "I don't know where any of my settings are now!" Though Self-Storage Talk (SST) is not at all near the scale of Facebook, it is the largest online community in the industry, and last Thursday, it got a much-needed software update, which has also resulted in a few changes as to usability. To avoid a public outcry among our more than 5,200 members, I'll try to explain a few of the most obvious changes. You might want to open www.selfstoragetalk.com and follow along on the home page as you read.

1. The Navigation Bar
You'll notice the main navigation bar contains only two links now: "What's New" and "Forum." But several of the other cool features of SST have not disappeared. Click on both "What's New" and "Forum" to see what's under each.

2. "User CP" is no more.
The easiest way to access the inner workings of your profile to do such things as change your password or add friends is to click on "settings" in the top-right corner of the home page.

3. Activity Stream
Located under "What's New" in the navigation bar, the activity stream is similar to a Facebook feed. It shows which members have most recently started or responded to threads. It's useful to get an overall glimpse of what's going on.

4. "New Posts" has moved.
Most SST members use the "New Posts" feature to check out all of the posts they haven't read since they logged on. This is no longer in the main navigation, but it is accessible from both "What's New" and "Forum."

5. FAQ
Need some guidance on how to navigate the forum? The new "FAQ" section tackles most of the questions youll have about how to get around SST.

If you have any questions, comments or criticisms about the new SST, feel free to send them to me at [email protected], or contact me via private message through the forum.

If you're not already an SST member, all of this update hullabaloo may not mean much to you. But as SST now has a new look and improved features and safety, there's never been a better time to join. Registering your username is free and can be done by visiting www.selfstoragetalk.com and clicking on "register" in the top-right corner of the screen.
