American actor Steven Ford, the son of former U.S. President Gerald Ford and former First Lady Betty Bloomer Ford, will serve as the keynote speaker at the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) annual convention, Oct. 14-16, in San Antonio.

A teenager when his father assumed the reins of the presidency from Richard Nixon, Ford left the White House at age 18 to pursue his dream of being a cowboy on cattle ranches out West, followed closely by his 10 Secret Service agents. He later went on to enjoy a successful Hollywood acting career, appearing in more than 30 movies including "Armageddon," "Black Hawk Down," "Contact," "Starship Troopers" and "When Harry Met Sally." Ford also appeared for six years on the Emmy Award-winning daytime drama "The Young and the Restless" and was a host of the NBC show "Secret Service."

As a speaker, Ford shares inspirational stories, including how his family dealt with his mother's battles with alcoholism and breast cancer, his own successful fight with alcoholism, and the Nixon pardon. He also offers humorous anecdotes regarding his 10 Secret Service agents, and provides firsthand details about life on the set of some of Hollywood's biggest movies.

The TSSA convention begins on Oct. 14 with a charity poker tournament to benefit the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas. A live and silent auction will continue throughout the event adding to the fundraising efforts. Education sessions start on Oct. 15, addressing industry finance, development, facility operation, sales, marketing and technology.

Established in 1986, the TSSA is a non-profit trade association dedicated to enhancing the quality of the self-storage industry in Texas. The association provides opportunities for members to increase their knowledge of the self-storage industry through education, research, discussion and exchange of information.
