A man shot his estranged wife and then himself yesterday morning at a self-storage facility in Bremerton, Wash. Officers from the Bremerton Police Department and Kitsap County Sheriff's Office were called to a Public Storage at 1950 N.E. Riddell Road just after 10 a.m., according to the source. Both the shooter and the victim are being treated at area hospitals.
The 40-year-old victim and her stepfather were at the facility to meet with her husband, age 41. The trio had traveled in separate vehicles to the storage property, where the husband and wife kept household goods, said Scott Wilson, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. The husband was in a rented truck, while the wife and stepfather were in a sport-utility vehicle (SUV).
The husband parked behind the SUV and got out of the truck. When his wife walked between the two vehicles, he shot her with a handgun and then shot himself in the head, Wilson said.
The shooter suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The woman was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with severe but non-life-threatening wounds. The stepfather wasn't injured.
