Taylor/Theus Holdings Inc., a self-storage developer and owner, has named Steve Moffat as a third partner, joining Tyler Colpini and David Ellison. In this role, Moffat will focus on identifying and analyzing acquisition and development opportunities for the company. He’ll be based in Salt Lake City.

Most recently, Moffat served as director of acquisitions for Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust and management firm. While there, he oversaw the acquisition of existing facilities and Certificate of Occupancy projects, completing more than $500 million in investments.

“We are excited about the addition of Steve to our team, and for Steve to launch our development presence on the West Coast, while also sourcing value-add acquisitions,” Colpini said. “We have worked with Steve for the past six years and have always been impressed with his ability to underwrite transactions. While at Extra Space, Steve has developed a vast network within the self-storage industry and a reputation of integrity that can only help our platform grow.”

Since 2009, Columbia, S.C.-based Taylor/Theus has developed 19 self-storage properties that were sold to Extra Space and their partners, representing more than 1.4 million rentable square feet and 14,000 units. The company’s existing portfolio includes five facilities in lease-up comprising more than 400,000 rentable square feet and 4,050 units. The sites are managed by Extra Space. Taylor/Theus also has four facilities under construction and has purchased another site for development. The company was founded by Walter Taylor and Bill Theus, who are chairmen.
