Self-storage attorney Scott I. Zucker, a founding partner in law firm Weissmann Zucker Euster Morochnik & Garber, P.C. in Atlanta, was a featured presenter at TEDxAtlanta, a March 15 event in Downtown Atlanta. Held at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University, the program included 17 presenters and multiple networking opportunities.
Zucker spoke to the audience about creating an ethical will. As part of his job as an attorney, he helps people prepare their last will and testament, but these documents often lack personal stories, advice or sentiments, he said. He then described how ethical wills are unique, offering the opportunity for legacy writing, “something you create to capture your personal thoughts with the intent to share them with the ones you love,” he said.
He also discussed the various formats for ethical wills—audio, video or written—and shared several examples from others who’ve created them. Zucker also described his own journey to create such a document, which became a book called “40 Things About Turning 40.” He then added 10 more items when he turned 50, and plans to continue adding as he ages, he told the audience.
Zucker is a certified mediator and arbitrator as well as a well-known speaker and author in the self-storage industry. He’s written more than 150 articles and conducted more than 100 lectures across the country on business and employment law. Most recently, he was a featured speaker at the recent Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Las Vegas, where he presented a four-hour Advanced Legal Workshop. Videos of some of his past ISS World Expo seminars are available at iss-store.com.
Zucker obtained his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis and received a law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He’s also authored two legal-thriller novels, “Chain of Custody” and “Rally on Two.” Both are available in paperback and as a digital e-book through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
TEDxAtlanta is sponsored by Ideas in Action, a Georgia-based nonprofit. It’s one of more than 2,900 TEDx groups across the globe.
TED is a nonprofit that began as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago. Presenters speak on a variety of topics for 18 minutes or less. Many of the talks are then made available for free at TED.com. This year’s event is being held April 15-19 at the Vancouver Convention Centre East in Vancouver, Canada.
