A new self-storage owner is running for a seat on the Verona, N.J., Town Council. On the May 14 ballot, John Fio Rito will face deputy mayor Michael Nochimson, whose term expires on June 30, according to the source.
Fio Rito is converting the former Piano Warehouse at 776 Bloomfield Ave. to Verona Storage. He also founded, owns and operates Point Capital Development, which structures, finances, develops and manages private-equity real estate investments in Jersey City, according to his campaign website. Since founding Point Capital, Fio Rito has coordinated the acquisition, financing and development of 18 buildings. He also oversees 17 operating companies.
A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Fio Rito served 15 years in the army, completing deployments in the Balkans, Germany and the Middle East. He and his wife, Kim, and their two daughters, Samantha and Johnna, have lived in Verona for 10 years.
“I'm running for township council because, as a veteran, small-business owner and father of two young children, I know how important it is to ensure we preserve and enhance the great quality of life we have in Verona through deliberative and responsible decision-making. As councilman, I will always put the needs of our community before politics,” Fio Rito told the source.
