Guardian Storage, which operates 25 self-storage facilities in Colorado and Pennsylvania, has hired Scot Vayo as vice president of operations. His role will be to expand the company’s property-management and operational footprint as well as establish new processes for “best-in-class” development. He starts on July 6, according to a press release.
Vayo comes to Guardian from iStorage, the property-management group for real estate investment trust National Storage Affiliates Trust, where he was regional director. In that role, Vayo led a team of seven district managers responsible for 62 properties in 10 states. Prior to iStorage, he held a similar position at Prime Storage Group, the release stated.
“Scot’s collaborative style and focus on team growth and development are very much aligned with our core values,” said Steven Cohen, president and founder of Guardian. “I look forward to the energy Scot will bring to Guardian, especially as we continue to grow.”
Vayo spent the first 10 years of his self-storage career as director of operations for Casey Storage, a family-owned company that grew from four New England locations to 13 during his tenure, prior to being sold. “I look forward to getting back to my roots at a private company with a recognizable brand and tight-knit team,” he said.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Nichols College in Massachusetts.
Established in Pittsburgh in 1987, Guardian operates 18 locations in the greater Pittsburgh area, with a new property under construction in Peter’s Township, Pa., and seven locations in Colorado.
