Mentone Self Storage of Mentone, Calif., is helping the town celebrate its history by allowing volunteer artists to create murals on its exterior walls. A Nov. 6 dedication at the facility at 2055 Mentone Blvd. unveiled the paintings, which have been in progress for several months, according to the source.

The murals show historic buildings, orange groves and the town’s 200-year-old waterway, Zanja Creek. The Mentone Depot was painted by George Everett, while orange groves and an icehouse were rendered by Kristine Salazar, her daughter Lily, and local Boy Scouts. Millie Hernandez and Levi Verdusco depicted Native Americans digging the creek ditch.

Additional murals are expected to be added next year, according to Gabe de la Rosa, vice chairman of the Mentone Chamber of Commerce. They’ll include the Mentone Hotel circa 1892, the Mentone Beach water tower and older buildings along the highway. “Mentone history is rich. The community, chamber and residents came through with a great, beautiful project,” de la Rosa wrote in an e-mail to the source.

Mentone Self Storage is operated by StorAmerica Management, a subsidiary of Guardian Storage Centers, a privately held corporation in Irvine, Calif. StorAmerica owns and operates more than 75 facilities in Arizona, California and Nevada.
