Shurgard Self-Storage, the international brand operated by U.S. real estate investment trust Public Storage Inc., has opened two new facilities in the London metropolitan area. The properties are in Deptford and Greenwich, England.
The Deptford facility is near Deptford Park and Folkestone Gardens. It contains 1,400 units and a second-floor business center featuring meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi and workstations. The site is carbon-neutral and includes a “green roof,” according to a company press release.
The Greenwich location is near entertainment complexes including The O2 Arena and Greenwich Shopping Park. Containing four floors and more than 1,500 units, it’s one of the largest self-storage facilities in Europe, the release stated.
Both properties received an “excellent” rating by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, which assesses, rates and certifies the sustainability of buildings. Security measures at the sites include alarms, motion-sensor lighting, perimeter fencing and video cameras.
Founded in Brussels in 1995, Shurgard expanded into the United Kingdom in 1999. It operates more than 220 locations across seven European countries. Since 2015, the company has opened six new facilities in London, and is currently expanding its properties in Harrow, England, and near the London City Airport, the release stated.
Based in Glendale, Calif., Public Storage has interests in 2,358 self-storage facilities in 38 states, with approximately 156 million net rentable square feet.
