Southern Self Storage, an operator with several facilities in Florida, raised $5,200 to benefit active military personnel during a charity-auction event patterned after the popular reality television series Storage Wars. The company held its Storage Wars Auction for Our Troops event at its Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., location.

Proceeds from the event will be given this week to Forgotten Soldiers Outreach Inc., a nonprofit group dedicated to sending monthly We Care packages to U.S. troops serving overseas. Since its founding in 2003, the organization has benefited more than 250,000 members of the armed forces.

What better way of giving and showing support to our military men and women than by hosting this fundraiser, said site managers Tom and Debbie Forsyth. We are honored to be a part of this great organization.

Participants who purchased a ticket could bit on the units, which company officials said were filled with high-quality items. Former television news anchor, Bob Nichols, who is now a licensed auctioneer with Hammer Down Auctions Inc., handled the bidding proceedings.

In other company news, Southern Self Storage also announced Kim Johnson as the winner of its iPad Giveaway Sweepstakes. Johnson will receive a brand new Apple iPad. Grady Stephens was the second-place winner and will receive two months of free storage.

The company held the sweepstakes over seven weeks, receiving more than 1,000 entries and garnering more than 1,300 likes on its Facebook page. It was the first time Southern held a giveaway through social media, company officials said.

Im completely thrilled with the results of the sweepstakes, said Tresha Powe, marketing manager. We received a lot of unique visitors to both our website and Facebook pages, and its always a good feeling to give such a great prize away right in time for the holidays.

Established in 1985, Southern Self Storage has several locations throughout Florida. The company also founded Northern Self Storage in 1994 and operates several facilities under that brand name in Ontario, Canada.
