An armed man was shot and killed this morning by a police officer on the grounds of Pulaski Storage in Pulaski, Va. The incident occurred about 12:55 a.m. when the officer approached a suspicious vehicle while conducting a routine security check of the self-storage facility at 1847 Bob White Blvd., according to the source.
The man, who was in his pickup truck, fired at least one shot after the officer approached him, according to Pulaski Police Chief Gary Roche. The officer wasn’t injured.
The suspect was taken to LewisGale Medical Center where he later died. His body was transported to the Roanoke, Va., Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted. Beer cans were found in the man’s vehicle, but it’s unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the shooting, the source reported.
Virginia state police are investigating the incident. The person who was shot is described as a white male in his 40s. Neither the man nor the officer have been identified.
