The Box Self Storage Services LLC, a self-storage operator that owns 26 facilities in the Middle East and West Asia, received a “Green Business of the Year” award from the “SME Advisor,” a regional magazine. The storage company and other winners were honored during the 2014 SME Stars of Business awards ceremony on Dec. 1. The event was held at Madinat Arena, in Madinat Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, Dubai, and organized by CPI Media Group in conjunction with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Etisalat, a telecommunications company.
Stars of Business recognizes small and mid-size enterprises (SMEs) across 22 business categories including construction and real estate, health and wellness, hospitality and tourism, marketing, and technology. Companies can nominate themselves for more than one category. The contest had nearly 5,000 entries in 2013.
The Box received its award for installing solar panels at most of its facilities, the source reported. The company was also a finalist in the categories for construction and real estate, and effective financial implementation.
“We are extremely honored to have received such a prestigious recognition. We invite other SMEs to follow Dubai’s initiatives for a greener and sustainable city by making simple changes in their day-to-day activities,” Wadih Haddad, founder and CEO of The Box, told the source.
Founded in 2007, The Box operates 24 facilities within the United Arab Emirates as well as a facility in Lebanon and Qatar in West Asia. Last year, the company ranked No. 72 among Dubai’s 75,000 SMEs by the city’s Department of Economic Development.
