A Nanaimo, British Columbia, facility recently donated a 10-by-20 heated unit for the rest of 2011, valued at $3,400, to a local hospice organization and related thrift store.

U-Lock Mini Storage, managed by Keith Davenport, is providing the space for Elders in Transition, a new venture of the local hospice organization. Elders in Transition provides assistance to seniors who are downsizing to smaller homes and lifestyles as well as to families who are settling estates. Clients often have many unwanted or unneeded items, which serve as donations to the thrift store, The Hospice Shoppe. The store, operational for four years but recently in need of more storage space, then sells the items and uses all proceeds to fund other hospice programs.

U-Lock Mini Storage has three locations: Nanaimo and Victoria, which are on Vancouver Island; and Surrey, which is 20 miles southeast of downtown Vancouver.
