Desert Gardens Mini Storage in Glendale, Ariz., is partnering with Desert Gardens Communities to host a community Charity Shred-a-Thon on April 17 to benefit Christine Ostwinkle Foundation for Lupus, a nonprofit that raises awareness for the disease and assists families affected by it. The event at 13551 W. Glendale Ave., 3 to 6 p.m., will be open to the public.
A donation of $5 is suggested for a shoebox or grocery bag of papers and $10 for a banker’s box of papers. Shredding will be provided by Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired Inc. Document Destruction and Recycling Services.
The Lupus Foundation of America estimates 1.5 million Americans have lupus, and 5 million around the world have a form of the disease. Lupus damages the body, as the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign bacteria and healthy tissue, so it attacks healthy tissue.
Desert Garden Mini Storage offers climate-controlled storage, RV parking and onsite management.
