Private-investment company IdeaTek Equity Group has opened an indoor self-storage facility as part of a mixed-use development in Hutchinson, Kan. The Sand Hills Center conversion project is on 5 acres at 4601 N. Plum St. in a structure that once housed Prosperity Elementary School. A CrossFit Hutch gym is open along with the 160-unit storage facility, with a multi-use event center scheduled to open later this month, according to the source.
Sand Hills Storage is the first to offer climate-controlled units in Reno County, the source reported. It provides tenants with 24-hour keypad access and has video cameras for security. The property is the company’s fourth self-storage location, all in Kansas.
“In operating storage facilities in South Hutchinson, Buhler and Haven over the past few years, we’ve had several requests for climate-controlled storage,” Jerrod Reimer, co-owner, said in a press release. “We also saw the opportunity to use our renewable-energy division to power the facility to leverage additional synergies from our investment platforms.”
The event center will offer 4,800 square feet of community and event space that’ll be available to rent for meetings, parties and other events, according to the source.
IdeaTek acquired the former school, which is more than 100 years old, after the school district built a new Plum Creek School and closed the site.
Based in Buhler, Kan., IdeaTek operates divisions focused on fiber-optic Internet and telecommunications services, outdoor digital billboard advertising, and renewable-energy development, in addition to self-storage.
