U.K. self-storage operator The Store Room is nearing completion on the first phase of a £300,000 expansion project at its facility in Leicester, England. Expected to be completed this month, the initial part of the project will add 10,000 square feet of storage space for residential and business use.
Specifically, phase one includes the addition of 60 self-storage units and workshop spaces from 25 square feet up to 1,000 square feet. The second phase is scheduled for September and will add a mezzanine floor and another 10,000 square feet of storage space. The facility at Foxholes Road has operated since 2007.
Our investment in Leicester demonstrates the increasing confidence we see in the local area, said Jeremy Bradburn, managing director. Weve seen a rapid increase in demand from online, eBay businesses needing self-storage to hold stock as well as traditional businesses needing more space for archive, tool and equipment storage. Demand for more flexible workshop units has also risen.
Move-ins from residential customers also have positively impacted the business. The housing market has also had a significant positive effect on our operations in Leicester, Bradburn added. People these days are often faced with the problem of having to move out of a home a good while before they can move into another. Having secure self-storage for household contents removes a lot of the stress and has become an increasingly popular solution.
Fulfillment of the expansion project is being handled by Active Supply & Design (CDM) Ltd., a U.K.-based builder and design firm specializing in self-storage.
Established in 2007, The Store Room operates self-storage facilities in the English communities of Bradford, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Preston and Rotherham.
