San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) is partnering with The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank for a food drive this May. All 17 SDSS locations will serve as collection sites for nonperishable food donations.
The food bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, according to its website. It provides services to 400,000 people each month and distributed 22 million pounds of food last year.
SDSS is involved in the community in other ways as well. Earlier this year, it initiated its 2016 Community Pride project, which allows individual sites to support local charities. Each property was given $500 to donate to a charitable cause chosen by the facility’s staff. Launched last year, the initiative allowed SDSS facility managers to “develop meaningful ties to their local communities,” according to a Facebook post. Facility staff collectively determine and organize a meeting with their chosen organization.
One property has already chosen and made a donation as part of this year’s campaign. Smart Self Storage of Eastlake once again split its funds between Second Chance Dog Rescue and the South Bay Family YMCA, a Facebook post stated.
Last year’s Community Project recipients were primarily programs that benefited animals and children. “If these first donations are an indication, it seems that trend may continue,” the Facebook post read.
Founded in 1972, SSDS has a network of self-storage facilities in San Diego County and additional facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The company is locally owned and operated.
