Detroit Planning Commission Considers Self-Storage Conversion
Nolan Realty Investments is hoping to convert a one-story office building in Detroit into a three-story drive-through self-storage facility.

The Detroit City Planning Commission will hold a public hearing today to discuss rezoning the parcel to allow the construction of a climate-controlled EZ Storage facility. The project will cost about $4 million. Nola Realty Investments developed a similar facility in Southfield, Mich.

The planning commission has concerns about the facility’s traffic flow, and the height and scale of the building, which sits on a main street. There is also some opposition from other businesses in the area. A partner in the project said traffic would be minimal, the facility would have limited access hours and employ a resident manager.
