A tornado ripped off the roof of a self-storage building at Durand Mini Storage in Durand, Wis., on Tuesday, leaving 25 storage units open to wind and rain. Tenants reported significant damage to stored belongings. The storm also tore rooftops off of neighboring homes and toppled RVs at a dealership near the storage facility, according to the source.

"I have a lot of old collectibles and some nice furniture in here," storage tenant James Keeler told the source while digging through the damage in his unit.

Another tenant, Steve Johnson, said most of the contents inside his unit were destroyed from exposure to the rain. "The water just destroyed it,” he said. “Everything is rotten. I got a lot of speakers in there that are completely rotten and ripped to the core."

At least one self-storage tenant indicated he didn’t have insurance to cover damage to his property.

Dick’s RV dealership suffered damage to several recreational vehicles on its property. "Two or three of them were tipped over on their sides. One was knocked into the power pole and knocked the transformer off,” co-owner Mark Doughty told the source. "It's a dozen campers out of a hundred that were out on the lot. So, we'll get them fixed or totaled out and move on."

The National Weather Service reported wind readings in the area of more than 70 miles per hour on Tuesday night.

Durand Mini Storage sits at W6751 Church and School Lane.
