McPhee Mini Storage in Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada, is hosting a garage sale May 21-22 to benefit the medical expenses of Christopher Hamilton, a man who was critically injured in a bicycle accident a few months after he heroically rescued a car-accident victim from a fire.

Hamilton's act of heroism occurred in April 2010 when he was working in his wood shop late at night and heard a car crash. He rushed to the scene to help victims. Though the driver was thrown from the car and killed instantly, Hamilton somehow freed a living passenger from being pinned, saving the passenger's life.

A month later, Hamilton was cycling on a road when a driver swerved and forced him off the road. He crashed into a ditch and lay immobile until a local teenager found him and stayed with him until an ambulance came. Hamilton suffered a broken neck and is now a quadriplegic. Having spent months in a Vancouver hospital, he needs treatment that Canada's national health care system cannot provide.
In addition, high gas prices are making it very costly for Hamiltons family to visit him in the hospital.

Therefore, the local community and family organized this garage sale with the help of the self-storage facility. Items available at the sale include tools, clothing, framed art, books, CDs, jewelry, electronics, home-building supplies, a TV, furniture and other items.

Courtenay is on Vancouver Island, about 140 miles northwest of Victoria.
