A fire at a warehouse last night in Tottenham, a district in North London, destroyed most of Safehouse Self-Storage as well as several other businesses. Twenty fire engines and 140 firefighters spent hours extinguishing the blaze at the White Hart Lane Industrial Park, according to the source. One person suffered hand burns and was taken to a local hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
It will take fire crews most of today to complete the job. "Though the fire is now surrounded, this will be a protracted incident, and crews are expected to remain on scene for a considerable time dealing with deep-seated pockets of fire,” according to a spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade.
In a statement, Safehouse said it plans to contact customers once its representatives were allowed access to the property, the source reported. The operator also posted a statement on its website expressing condolences to its tenants and offering them contact information.
The Safehouse property contained approximately 500,000 square feet of self-storage space, its website stated. In addition to traditional self-storage, the property offered office space, truck rentals, a retail store that sells packing supplies, and a café.
