ARCO/Murray completed construction on Curry Road Self Storage in Tempe, Ariz. Developed on behalf of Rincon Partners, the facility will be managed by REIT Public Storage Inc. The four-story facility at 1606 E. Curry Road comprises 100,000 square feet in 723 units. It contains a walkout basement and a 1,000-square-foot office. The façade is a mixture of masonry, wood veneer and architectural metal panels. Ben Graber was the project manager, and Matt Pitzen served as the project superintendent.
Bee Safe Storage and Wine Cellar completed construction on a new facility in Greensboro, N.C. The property at 3005 Martinsville Road comprises about 96,000 square feet in 550 units, including 28 wine-storage spaces. Scheduled to open on April 17, the facility is the fourth Bee Safe location in Greensboro. The company operates 17 self-storage facilities in the Carolinas, Tennessee and Texas, and has 10 projects in various stages of planning and development. It’s a subsidiary of The Carroll Cos., a Greensboro-based developer of multi-family properties, mixed-use lifestyle centers and self-storage.
Cedarwood Development, an affiliate of Cedarwood Cos., completed construction of a new facility in Orlando, Fla., just south of downtown, the company’s first in the self-storage sector. The property at 930 Sligh Blvd. comprises 117,000 square feet in 787 units. It’ll be managed by US Storage Centers, the operating brand for Westport Properties Inc., an owner/operator with more than 9 million rentable square feet under management. Founded in 1972 and based in Fairlawn, Ohio, Cedarwood has developed commercial and retail projects nationwide. Services include build-to-suit projects, office buildings, shopping centers, multi-family communities, resort hotels, senior-living communities and self-storage.
The Coastal and Miller-Valentine partnership will develop a self-storage facility in South Lakeland, Fla. The three-story structure on Lakeland Highlands Road will comprise 73,800 square feet. Its urban design will include a decorative façade and accent landscaping. Construction is expected to begin in August and take about a year to complete.
Real estate development and investment firm Patagon Ventures LLC intends to convert a 29,994-square-foot industrial building in Philadelphia to self-storage. The company recently acquired the property at 533 E. Hunting Park Ave. for $1.6 million. Based in Utah, Patagon has built storage facilities in several states.

ARCO/Murray Design Build completed construction on Eastside Spectrum Storage in Vancouver, Wash. Developed on behalf of Banner Real Estate Group, the facility will be managed by self-storage real estate investment trust (REIT) Extra Space Storage Inc. The four-story, 136,000-square-foot structure includes a 1,110-square-foot office and an interior loading dock. The varied exterior design includes metal panels and glass-display corridors. Barrett Nelson was the project manager, and Wade Hack served as the superintendent. ARCO/Murray has more than 25 years of design/build experience.
Banner NorCal Developer LLC, a division of Banner Real Estate Group, received approval to develop a six-story vehicle-storage facility in Alameda, Calif. The 110,844-square-foot building on the northeast corner of Mariner Square Drive and Marina Village Parkway will be built on a 1.24-acre parcel that covers a portion of the Posey Tube, the tunnel that carries traffic under the estuary from Alameda into Oakland, Calif. The property will also include an 800-square-foot office and two interior loading docks. Founded in 1989, Banner operates 48 multi-family properties and has developed 20 self-storage facilities.
A partnership between Coastal Storage Group and Miller-Valentine Group will develop a self-storage facility in Ormond Beach, Fla. The three-story structure on S. Nova Road will comprise 71,350 square feet. Its design will include a decorative façade, natural landscape buffers and accent landscaping. Construction is expected to begin in August and take about a year to complete. Coastal and Miller-Valentine own facilities in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Knoxville, Tenn., and are actively developing sites in Florida, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.
Prime Development Group LLC opened Lacey Self Storage, a newly constructed facility in Lacey, Wash. The property at 8345 Martin Way E. comprises 104,240 rentable square feet in 817 units. It also has 10 enclosed RV-storage units and 20 covered vehicle spaces. The facility was designed by Stephen Bourne of Seattle-based Site + Plan + Mix LLC. It’ll be managed by West Coast Self-Storage Group, an acquisition, development and property-management company headquartered in Everett, Wash. Its portfolio of managed and owned properties includes 48 sites in Washington, eight in Oregon and nine in California.
SureStore, which operates three facilities in England, is building a new location in Wigan, a town in Greater Manchester. The £4 million facility will replace a building on Pitt Street, in the town center, that formerly housed furniture-maker Latham Jenkins. Once complete, it’ll include four stories comprising 50,000 square feet. Triton Construction is the general contractor. The project is the first of several collaborations between the companies. SureStore operates facilities in Bolton, Northwich and Bury, and has three projects underway. It aims to operate 20 stores nationwide within 18 months.
TDR Investments LLC is seeking approval to convert a roller-skating rink the company owns in Spokane Valley, Wash. Brothers Dmitriy, Roman and Timofey Oberemok filed a building permit application with the city last month. Plans for 9415 E. Fourth Ave. include 15,000 square feet of self-storage in 116 indoor units, plus 95 portable-storage containers for the parking lot. The brothers purchased Roller Valley in 2017 after the death of the former owner, Colleen Bernstein. Although they initially planned to turn the site into a warehouse for their trucking company, TDR Logistics, they chose to keep it open after an outpouring of community support. The rink is rented and operated by Zhanna Oberemok.
