Article-New Dominion Self Storage Location Opens in Buckeye, AZ

Update 6/25/18 – Dominion Self-Storage has completed construction of its Buckeye, Ariz., facility in the Verrado master-planned community. The final project comprises 81,618 square feet of storage space in 528 air-conditioned units.

“We are so excited to open this project in Verrado. Our time spent in the community and with DMB has been nothing short of awesome,” Stenehjem said. “They have a true vision and are tireless in making sure each new project fits into that vision. The residents have welcomed us and have shown their support since before the doors even opened. We are dedicated to providing a safe, secure, clean storage solution with friendly service, and hope to be a great neighbor here in Verrado.”

Dominion will open its next location in Mesa, Ariz., in late 2019. The site will be in the Eastmark master-planned community.

8/9/17 Dominion Self-Storage has broken ground on a new facility in Buckeye, Ariz., its third location in the state. The property at 20825 W. McDowell Road is on the southeast corner of McDowell Road and Market Street, in the Verrado master-planned community.

Designed by Philip Gollon, an architect with Architectural Concepts & Arc Services Inc., the project represents a new direction in “community-oriented” self-storage facilities, according to a press release. The 1.25-acre property comprises more than 80,000 gross square feet of storage space, but was designed to fit the “small-town” design of the area.

“Our challenge with this project was to make a self-storage facility not look like a self-storage facility. We needed to make it fit aesthetically within the community, while designing a building that is easily recognizable as self-storage,” Gollon said.

The architect worked with Verrado’s developer, DMB White Tank LLC, on the design, which includes rusted-box metal ribbing, corrugated metal siding, honed concrete masonry units, board-formed concrete and multi-stained applications. “Their unique material pallet and design guidelines allowed us to take it up a notch,” Gollon added.

“We are so excited to get this project into the ground and open for business. Verrado is such an exceptional community in the bustling West Valley, and we feel our high-end product fits this unique and growing area well,” said Mike Stenehjem, vice president for Dominion. “The design and look of this building is going to be our finest to date, and we truly believe the community will be proud to call us neighbors. We look forward to serving and becoming a part of Verrado.”

Dominion opened its first facility at 295 E. Ocotillo Road in Chandler, Ariz., in 2015, and its second site at 18729 E. Business Park Drive in Queen Creek, Ariz., in May. Both properties are managed by 180 Self-Storage LLC, a Phoenix-based property-management and consulting firm run by principals Jeff Helgeson and Tim Jones. The Buckeye facility will also be managed by 180. Dominion plans to open several more locations in the Phoenix area in the next few years, the release stated.
