Police continue to sort through thousands of stolen items found last November in a self-storage unit after they busted a years-long string of burglaries taking place from New York to Rhode Island.
Bernard E. McAllister, 40, and Mark T. Missino, 43, were arrested in November and remain incarcerated as the multi-agency investigation continues. Investigators are still sifting through about 100,000 pieces of evidence they found in a unit at Rent-A-Space in East Lyme, Conn. The stolen goods included cash, fur coats, jewelry, guns, art and other items, allegedly taken during nearly 100 residential burglaries along the Interstate 95 corridor.
Police were tipped off about the unit full of stolen goods. They observed the men exiting the unit, but the pair fled when police moved in. The two were captured five days later in a hotel in Leominster, Mass.
McAllister and Missino told authorities they were professional poker players. The men are charged with first-degree larceny by possession based on the discovery of contents within the storage unit, according to prosecutor Theresa Anne Ferryman. Other jurisdictions may bring additional charges. Both men have court dates this month.
