Police arrested a woman on Feb. 1 who was suspected of breaking into multiple units at Dollar Self Storage in Mesa, Ariz., where she and her husband rented a unit. Footage from security cameras at 2732 E. McKellips Road captured Cyndal Despain, 33, picking the locks on several doors, then removing items from units and loading them into her vehicle, according to the source.
The stolen goods, which included music equipment, had an estimated value of more than $20,000, the source reported. One unit was accessed on two different occasions.
A search of Despain's storage unit recovered items that had been reported missing as well as other goods. Despain told detectives she has “an ability to pick locks.” She claimed the thefts helped her support her drug habit. She faces three felony counts of burglary.
Dollar Self Storage is managed by Stadium Properties LLC, a privately held real estate company that develops and operates assets in Arizona, California and Nevada. It owns 22 storage locations in the Southwest.
