Update 8/3/20 – Maneely was sentenced to six years in state prison last week for killing a man at a Morro Bay self-storage facility. He accepted a plea agreement in early July for manslaughter, under which his sentence would not exceed seven years. He pleaded “not guilty” to murder in February, according to the source.
Defense attorney Ilan Funke-Bilu indicated the altercation occurred after McTaggart approached Maneely, who was inside his unit playing music. Had the case gone to trial, Funke-Bilu planned to bring up past incidents of violence involving McTaggart. Maneely has expressed remorse for the killing, the lawyer said.
Maneely and members of McTaggart’s family read statements to the court during the plea hearing, the source reported.
1/28/20 – Police arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing on Saturday at Morro Bay Self Storage System in Morro Bay, Calif. Police were called to 1111 Allesandro St. just before 4 p.m. after receiving a report of two men fighting near a storage unit, according to sources.
The victim, Andrew McTaggart II, 58, was wounded in the upper left part of his chest. Officers rendered aid before McTaggart was taken by ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He later died from his injuries.
Police arrested 53-year-old Sean Maneely at the scene. He’s being held at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on one count of homicide. Bail hasn’t been set.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the altercation. The local men knew each other and had verbally sparred before it became physical, said Morro Bay Police Chief Jody Cox.
