Atlantic Self Storage and the Beach Boulevard Flea Market of Jacksonville, Fla., are teaming up with Farm Share to provide food to Florida residents in need during the coronavirus pandemic. Atlantic became involved in the program after noticing some of its customers were struggling to pay rent on their storage units, according to the source.
The businesses have co-hosted a drive-through distribution at the flea market at 11041 Beach Blvd., which is adjacent to the storage facility, every Wednesday for the past five weeks. About 450 people receive a fresh food box each week. Donations include milk, eggs, vegetables and fruits, along with non-perishables. Employees from both companies also volunteer to organize and distribute the food.
Anyone interested in receiving food donations must register on the Farm Share website. The first 450 people are assigned a time to visit and pick up their box.
Established in 1991, Farm Share is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that partners with more than 2,000 food pantries, churches, schools and other organizations in Florida to distribute food. Last year, it provided more than 88 million pounds of food to more than 17.5 million households.
Founded in 1979, Atlantic operates more than 50 self-storage locations in Northeast Florida. The family-owned business offers indoor, drive-up and vehicle storage as well as tractor-trailer parking.
