The planning and zoning commission in Torrington, Conn., is considering a change zoning regulations that would allow an old factory to be converted into a self-storage facility. Developer James Lee presented a self-storage development plan to the commission on Wednesday.
Lee wants to purchase the building on E. Elm Street, but he first needs the panel to consider allowing self-storage in what is now an industrial zone. Current zoning regulations restrict self-storage to the downtown district.
The building has been for sale since it was vacated in 2010 by Altek Electronics Inc., a manufacturer of circuit boards. Its currently owned by a local bank. The building is priced at $150,000, according to Lee, who said hes willing to purchase the building as is.
