National Storage Center of Redford, Mich., a 90,000-square-foot self-storage facility developed and managed by Pogoda Cos., received a 2007 Business Beautification Award from the Redford Township Chamber of Commerce. Pogoda, based in Farmington Hills, is Michigans largest self-storage operator.
The facility was converted from a vacant industrial building into a 500-unit storage facility in 2006. The project involved the total restoration of the 57,000-square-foot, former Empire Door showroom/manufacturing facility, along with the construction of a 20,000-square-foot, two-story addition and 13,000 square feet of drive-up units along the buildings exterior. New landscaping including a retention pond replaced two rows of asphalt parking and created a park-like green space on the 3.2-acre site. The building features a brightly colored exterior topped by Nationals signature cupola, an 11-foot reproduction of the U.S. Capitol dome, which is illuminated at night.
