Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc. has purchased the former A Storage for U self-storage facility in Baton Rouge, La. The property at 8415 Greenwell Springs Road has been rebranded as U-Haul Moving & Storage at Greenwell Springs Road.
The facility features 10 buildings comprising 60,000 square feet of storage space. It includes 346 drive-up and 136 interior units, 50 of which are climate-controlled. The property also offers moving and packing supplies, towing equipment, and truck and trailer rentals.
“Before U-Haul took over this property, we had only 55 U-Haul-owned storage units in Baton Rouge. This acquisition now truly puts us in the storage business here,” said Patrick Allen, president of the U-Haul Co. of Southern Louisiana.
The facility is currently undergoing numerous upgrades. “We are increasing the lighting, upgrading security with new cameras and remodeling the front office,” said Derek Edens, general manager.
The acquisition of the Baton Rouge facility was driven by U-Haul’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, according to a press release. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of existing structures eliminates the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps local cities diminish their unwanted inventory of unused buildings, U-Haul officials said.
Established in 1945, U-Haul has more than 44 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,200 owned facilities throughout North America.
