U-Haul International has acquired the former Capitol View Self Storage in Jefferson City, Mo., and rebranded it as U-Haul Moving and Storage of Jefferson City. It’s the company’s first facility in the state capital.
The property at 311 Ellis Blvd. features a single-story, 48,540-square-foot building on 1.38 acres of land. Built in 1974, the structure was converted to self-storage in two phases between 2005 and 2012 and includes 260 climate-controlled units. The property also has 18 vehicle-parking spaces. U-Haul plans to make improvements to the facility, which also offers truck and trailer rentals, and moving and packing supplies.
The acquisition of Capitol View Self Storage was driven by U-Haul’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, according to a press release. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of buildings eliminates the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps local cities diminish their unwanted inventory of unused buildings, U-Haul officials said.
Established in 1945, U-Haul International Inc. has more than 40 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,000 owned and managed facilities throughout North America.
