Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc., which operates more than 1,300 self-storage locations across North America, has purchased a vacant lot in Albuquerque, N.M., on which it plans to build a new facility. Slated to open in fall 2017, U-Haul Moving & Storage at Coors & I-40 will be on the northeast corner of Coors Boulevard N.W. and Interstate 40.
The 5.41-acre property will feature a three-story building, a single-story building and two rows of drive-up units comprising 82,181 rentable square feet of storage space in 1,032 units. About 53 percent of the units will be climate-controlled. The facility will also offer hitch installation and towing equipment, moving and packing supplies, and truck and trailer rentals. Propane sales will be added after the property opens, according to a press release.
"This property acquisition will give the Westside community a premium do-it-yourself moving option. There has never been a U-Haul-owned facility on this side of town," said Tom Neill, president of the U-Haul Co. of Northern New Mexico. "Most of the housing growth is happening here in the Westside community. We are excited to serve our future customers in this area.”
Established in 1945, U-Haul has more than 44 million square feet of storage space at its owned facilities throughout North America.
