Phoenix-based U-Haul International Inc., which operates more than 1,300 self-storage locations across North America, has acquired Apple Community Storage in Milford, Maine. The 10.69-acre property at 191 Bradley Road was built in 2012 and comprises 43,181 square feet of storage space. U-Haul recently installed an automated-gate system and plans to add vehicle-storage parking, according to a press release. The site has been rebranded as U-Haul Storage of Apple Community.
"U-Haul Moving & Storage at Stillwater Avenue is three miles from this new facility, and we have been looking to expand our services in the Milford community," said Jon Hynes, president of the U-Haul Co. of Maine. "Our residents were being underserved. We are excited to be growing here to meet their needs."
The acquisition was driven by U-Haul’s corporate sustainability initiatives, which support infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint, the release stated. U-Haul’s adaptive reuse of existing structures eliminates the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps local cities diminish their unwanted inventory of unused buildings, U-Haul officials said.
Established in 1945, U-Haul has more than 44 million square feet of storage space at its owned facilities throughout North America.
