Storage Quarters, which operates two self-storage facilities in New York, sponsored a community shredding event on April 12 at the Huntington, N.Y., Township Chamber of Commerce. From 4 to 6 p.m. on “Shred Day 2017” chamber members were invited to drop off as many as five boxes of documents for free shredding as well as recyclable e-waste including computer monitors, keyboards and cell phones.
The destroyed paper was later donated to a recycling company that makes compost for local farms and gardens, according to a press release. Since the launch of the annual shred event in 2012, more than 5,000 pounds of documents have been turned into wood pulp, which is used as fertilizer, the release stated.
In addition to traditional self-storage, Storage Quarters specializes in records-management services including document storage, scanning and shredding. The company also recently launched a valet-style storage division known as Box&Co., which uses an online platform through which customers can schedule item pickup, maintain a visual catalog of stored items, and arrange delivery of items back to their home. It recently expanded its service area from New York City to Long Island.
Founded in 1998, Storage Quarters operates facilities in Garden City and Queens, N.Y. The company is family-owned and -operated.
