Self-storage operator Storage Masters recently updated lighting fixtures at eight of its locations to reduce energy costs.

The company has self-storage facilities in Colorado, Florida, Missouri and Texas. The lighted storage halls and driveways have all been replaced with the latest energy-saving lighting fixtures, reducing the bulb size from T12 to T8. The upgrade has led to an energy saving of about 50 percent at each facility.

The new lighting improvements have also been equipped with motion-sensitive timers that detect when light activation is required during the course of the 24-hour gate access and 24-hour camera surveillance period.

The self-storage company plans to continue developing greener facilities, and is currently considering adding solar panels at its Orlando, Fla., location. Our hope is to set the standard for green facilities in the storage industry and pass these benefits along to the consumers in our local communities, a company representative said.
