A proposed self-storage facility in Derry, N.H., had its lighting and landscaping plan approved last week by the Derry Planning Board, clearing the way for the project. The board had given conditional approval for the facility in August, but requested owner Paul George present a more detailed plan for phase one of what will be a three-phase project.

The facility will eventually include new storage buildings totaling 70,800 square feet in addition to an existing 3,000-square-foot office building, which will be used to manage the property. Phase one includes the construction of two buildings. The site at 230 Rockingham Road comprises 21 acres.

The plan approved by the board includes energy-efficient LED lighting. "Each one of the proposed buildings will have eight wall packs on the face of the building, and then there will be four other lights on utility poles throughout the property," said Jim Hanley, project engineer. "The idea is to provide a minimal amount of light and not cast any light outside the property."

Landscaping along Route 28 will remain the same, although a few shrubs will be relocated.
