Kane Self Storage in Marlborough, Mass., is a candidate for receiving a cell tower on site, but the proposal is being reconsidered by Verizon Wireless because of neighbor concerns.
Verizon spent two years searching for the right local site and signed a lease agreement with Kane Self Storage last year. The proposed tower would stand 155 feet from the Kane office building.
Verizon presented its proposal to the citys Wireless Communications Committee this week. A resident of Bolton Street, where the self-storage facility is located, expressed worry that the tower will hang over her home and could decrease her property value. The committee validated her concern.
Though the project complies in every way with the city's zoning, meeting setback and height requirements, Verizon acknowledges that neighbors might be able to see the tower, but not in most cases. Verizon and Kane Self Storage could discuss adding trees to screen the tower.
The proposal will be revisited by the Wireless Committee on Oct. 26.
