Heard Storage Inc., which operates self-storage facilities throughout South Carolina, plans to convert a former church to a storage facility in Simpsonville, S.C. The 82,380-square foot vacant building at 2307 Highway 14 previously belonged to the Abundant Life Church of God and once served as a textile plant. It will be named Simpsonville Self Storage.
Jon and Chris Heard, who own six self-storage facilities in South Carolina, recently purchased the building and 9.29 acres of land between Interstate 385 and South Carolina Highway 14 for $1 million, according to Willz Tolbert, a broker with commercial real estate firm Lee & Associates, which brokered the deal. The Heards are pursuing a tax credit from the South Carolina Textiles Communities Revitalization Act, Tolbert told the source.
The area has had very little development in recent years, except a Walmart Neighborhood Market, which opened in January, the source reported. The opening of the storage facility could spur new commercial development, Tolbert said.
“We have about 5 acres of excess land that we’re about to put on the market. We think there’s a good bit of value on the commercial side there,” Tolbert said. “We’re hoping for some kind of retail business like a restaurant or convenience store there because Walmart’s bringing a lot more attention to that area.”
Heard Storage Inc. operates self-storage facilities in Columbia, Greer, Pelzer, Piedmont and Travelers Rest, S.C.
