Dundas Self Storage in Dundas, Minn., is in the middle of an expansion project that will nearly double its storage capacity. Crews have been pouring large concrete slabs that will be the foundation for the new buildings. Once completed, the facility will grow from 34,000 square feet to 60,000, owner Jerry Anderson said.
Weve grown with the community, Anderson said. Well continue to grow because it is a strong service business. Dundas Self Storage has expanded five times since it opened in 1980, with the last project completed more than 10 years ago, he said.
Mike Healy, owner of Healy Construction Co. based in Faribault, Minn., said the new expansion will require more than 500 cubic yards of concrete. Unit sizes will vary from 5-by-5 up to 12-by-24 feet.
In addition to Dundas, the facility serves the community in nearby Northfield, Minn., Anderson said. We have two cities and one business community, he said. One business helps feed another business.
Dundas City Administrator John McCarthy said he is hopeful the project will help spur additional development from businesses that are capable of creating more jobs. Any improvement is good for the area and will make a significant contribution to the property tax base, McCarthy said. Unfortunately, the land where the expansion is taking place is prime real estate.
