Compass Self Storage, a member of the Amsdell family of companies, recently converted a former Blaushild Chevrolet and Ganley Nissan car dealership to a storage facility in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The property at 16005 Chagrin Blvd. encompasses more than 67,000 net rentable square feet of storage space. It offers climate control, drive-through and drive-up storage, video cameras, electronic access, online billpay, and a full line of moving and packing supplies. It will also offer truck rentals, according to a company press release.
The storage facility is the first permitted by the city, according to an Amsdell press release. The company began battling with city officials over zoning issues in 2013, ultimately receiving permission from the Shaker Heights Planning Commission to build the project.
"We are proud to open the doors of the first self-storage center in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and believe our product, including the unique feature of a drive-through building, will be valued by our new customers in the community," said Todd Amsdell, president.
Headquartered in Cleveland, the Amsdell Cos. draws its roots from the family-owned construction company founded in 1928. Since its inception, the company has been active in several billions of dollars of real estate ventures, with a primary focus on self-storage. It has owned and operated more than 500 storage centers under various trade names in more than 27 states. It currently owns and operates properties in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
