Uncle Bob’s Self Storage, the operating brand for real estate investment trust Sovran Self Storage Inc., is collecting donations at its facility in Liverpool, N.Y., to assist the victims of a November house fire in nearby Syracuse, N.Y., that killed three people. The facility at 7266 Henry Clay Blvd. will accept clothing, furniture and other items through Jan. 31.
Donations should be taken to the facility’s main office and brought to the attention of facility manager Cathy Roth or associate manager Michelle Portorsnok. Participants may also ask for unit 441, which the facility has donated to the People’s AME Zion Church to collect items. Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has also assisted with the clothing drive and fundraising effort, according to the source.
Roth credited the idea to tenant Gwen Starling, who approached the manager about downsizing her unit and using her old unit to collect items for the Settles and Spencer families affected by the Nov. 13 fire. Marvon Gunn, a 4-month-old infant, was killed in the blaze, along with Margaret Settles, 64, and Shantique Settles, 38.
Donations will be accepted at the storage facility from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
An earlier online fundraiser raised more than $16,000 for the families, according to the source.
Uncle Bob’s Self Storage operates more than 500 facilities in 25 states, including four in the Syracuse area.
