The Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) raised $112,818 through various charity events in 2014 and recently donated the money to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas. To date, the TSSA has raised more than $616,000 in support of the hospital’s work to help burn victims and their families.

A group representing TSSA presented the check to the hospital’s board of governors on Jan. 26 and accepted a special award on behalf of the association from the hospital’s board in recognition of its long-standing support. During the meeting, TSSA Fundraising Committee Co-Chairs David and Doug Hunt provided an overview of fundraising projects, including the “Starfish: Make a Difference Campaign,” which allows association members to solicit donations and increase awareness among their customer base.

Additional attendees included TSSA officers Amy Nolan, president; Paul Glover, vice president; and Mark Skeans, immediate past president. Also in attendance were Larry Easley of Storage Management Group, Megan and Cody Fuentes of Daughtry Properties, Donna Hunt of Access Self Storage, and Trena Hunt of OMC Gate Service Inc. The group also met hospital staff and toured the facility.

“Each year that we’re able to tour the hospital gives us an insight into the work done at the hospital, and it is absolutely amazing,” said David Hunt. “The advancements in technology are an eye-opener, but the best part is seeing up close the dedication of the caregivers to the patients. It’s a phenomenal experience.”

The TSSA Fundraising Committee is currently making plans for its next campaign, which takes place in large part at the association’s annual conference, Sept. 27-29, in San Antonio.

Established in 1986, the TSSA is a nonprofit trade association dedicated to enhancing the quality of the self-storage industry in Texas. The association provides opportunities for members to increase their knowledge of the self-storage industry through education, research, discussion and exchange of information.

Shriners Hospitals for Children includes 22 hospitals in Canada, Mexico and the United States, providing advanced care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.
