Stor-Age Self Storage, which operates more than 37 locations in South Africa, was a sponsor of Special Wings Golf Day, Sept. 8, benefiting the Special Wings Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for special-needs children. The event was held at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate in Johannesburg. Stor-Age offered each golfer a water bottle, a voucher for one month of free storage, and a free tip at the tee box.
Founded in 2012, Special Wings raises funds to help educate and provide therapy for special-needs children whose family can’t afford it. To date, it has raised more than $15,000. Although the organization continues to work with existing schools to develop programs and support for children with special needs, it hopes to one day open a school designed specifically for them.
“There are very few grants available to these families. The grants there are wouldn’t cover a single months’ school fees, let alone the medical expenses faced by these families for therapy, operations or specialized equipment needed to do basic activities that we take for granted,” according to a Special Wings representative.
Headquartered in Cape Town, Stor-Age operates properties in six South African cities. The company regularly supports charitable causes, according to the source. It has supported the Santa Shoebox Project, sponsored several local rugby teams, donated money to the Children’s Hospital Trust in support of the Red Cross Memorial Children’s Hospital, and worked with Bikers Against the Abuse of Children. It has also supported the “It’s Your Turn” dress sale, which raises funds for school uniforms and shoes for children in need.
