Champion Self Storage in Ruskin, Fla., and Pines Road Storage Center in Shreveport, La., recently served as collection sites for items that were shipped to soldiers deployed overseas. Donated items included non-perishable food as well as personal-hygiene products.
Champion partnered with the South Shore Chamber of Commerce for a drive sponsored by the chamber’s newly established Military Affairs Committee. The campaign was launched on June 3 and culminated in a packing event on July 6, according to a post on the committee’s Facebook page.
In addition to being a drop-off location, Pines Road provided space to volunteers of the Shreveport chapter for Operation Support Our Troops Inc. (OSOT) to prepare care 1,000 packages on June 18. The packages were shipped for delivery to soldiers during the July 4 weekend, according to the OSOT website.
The nonprofit was founded in 2002 by Mary Kay Salomone to support U.S. troops by sending goods and letters to boost morale, the website said. The charity also raises money to pay for the shipping costs. OSOT is now collecting items for its Nov. 12 ship date.
Champion Self Storage operates three facilities in Florida and one in Georgia. Property features include climate control, gated entry, individual door alarms and vehicle storage.
Pines Road Storage Center is a part of Southern Storage Centers, which operates six facilities in Louisiana. Property features include climate control, individual door alarms and video cameras.
