Farrell's Self Storage, a two-facility self-storage operator in North Carolina, is donating to the fundraising efforts of Teri Swezey, a woman who is walking across the country to raise money and awareness for sufferers of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
The 57-year-old Swezey is walking from Carrboro, N.C., to her hometown of Cambria, Calif., a 3,039-mile journey that will take her six to seven months. With a goal of raising $180,000, she has so far collected $3,500. She is motivated by the memory of her late mother, who suffered from mixed vascular dementia, a disease caused by problems with the blood supply to the brain.
Like Sweeney, Jim Moore, manager at the Farrell's facility in Chapel Hill, was once a caretaker for a person with Alzheimer's. He finds Swezeys mission a very worthwhile cause. She has a desire to bring forth whats important to her, Moore told the source. I give her credit. I dont think it was easy to gain support.
A public-health researcher, Swezey also helped create Seniors Obtaining Assistance and Resources Inc. (SOAR), an organization that raises funds and awareness to help meet the needs of vulnerable elderly and their caregivers. She is a SOAR board member.
Farrell's Self Storage has facilities in Apex and Chapel Hill, N.C.
